Surgical Associates of Richmond’s Vascular Center is pleased to offer a new service (VasCare) to those who wish to know if they are at risk for vascular disease.

What is VasCare? VasCare includes three quick and painless vascular screening procedures into one easy appointment. Each procedure can identify potentially harmful vascular conditions in their earliest stages. This is important because early detection leads to better and more effective treatments of vascular disease. Utilizing harmless ultrasound, the tests are quick, painless, and non-invasive. All three tests usually only take 30 to 45 minutes and you receive your results before you leave! The only patient preparation/restriction is to fast for four hours prior to your appointment. There are no restrictions or limitations after the testing.

What tests are included? Surgical Associates is pleased to offer the entire three test VasCarepackage for $99.00. (If you would like to take an individual test, we will be happy to accommodate your request for just $50 each)

The VasCare package includes:

Carotid Artery Screening – The carotid arteries are located on each side of your neck and carry blood to the brain.    When plaque builds up within these arteries (known as atheroschlerosis), it can restrict the flow of blood to the brain and potentially cause a stroke.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening – If you remember the actor John Ridder from Three’s Company, you may know how an abdominal artic aneurysm (AAA) is a silent killer. An AAA can occur without any warning signs or symptoms. The aorta is located just below your heart and supplies blood to your entire lower body. An aneurysm is a swelling or bulging of this vital blood vessel that eventually leads to a weakening and/or rupture. Since very few people who suffer a ruptured aortic aneurysm survive, a simple screening may save your life.

Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) Screening – An ABI screens for peripheral artery disease or PAD. PAD is a build-up of plaque inside the arteries that feed your lower extremities. PAD can cause resting leg pain, numbness or tingling, and discoloration as well as decreased ability to move your feet and toes. And, if you exercise regularly, PAD can cause pain in the buttocks and legs.

If you would like to schedule an appointment for a VasCare screening, please contact our office at (804) 320-2705. We will be happy to assist.
