John was born in Gadsden, Alabama and lived in Georgia, Texas, and Florida before moving to Hopewell, Virginia in 1960. He attended Tulane University in Louisiana for college, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
After establishing a surgical practice in Richmond on his own, John joined SAR in 1990, bringing with him his practice and enhancing SAR with his talents in general, laparoscopic, and vascular surgery. He serves as medical director of Johnston-Willis Medical Center’s Level 3 trauma center and participates on numerous committees.

Medical Training

John completed his Doctor of Medicine degree from Tulane University, where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Honor Medical Society. John completed a general surgical residency and vascular surgery fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia. John is a member of the Richmond Academy of Medicine, Virginia Surgical Society, and the American College of Surgeons.

Personal Notes

He and his wife Linda are the proud parents of four young adults, three daughters and a son. John is an avid golfer. He and his wife enjoy bicycle riding when time and weather permit, and recently celebrated their 40th anniversary.
