Dr. Diane R. Cox was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and currently resides in the Brandermill area of Chesterfield County with her husband. Effective July 2010, Dr. Cox will join our new office located at 13460 Tredegar Lake Pkwy near St. Francis Medical Center and will be quickly building her practice at St. Francis Medical Center and CJW Medical Center, Johnston-Willis Campus.
Dr. Cox received her bachelor’s degree (cum laude) in biology and music from Texas Christian University in 1999. During her undergraduate college training, Diane was awarded a Dean’s Scholarship, was a member of Phi Kappa Lambda and Golden Key Honor Societies, and was on the Dean’s List for four years. She also received the USAA All-American Scholar Collegiate Award.
Dr. Cox pursued and completed her doctorate in medicine from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Medicine (UTHSCSA) in 2005. While there, Dr. Cox was awarded senior honors in UTHSCSA’s surgery program. Furthermore, she completed her internship and residency in surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia from 2005 to 2010. While here, Dr. Cox received the Intern of the Year Award in 2006 and the Best Resident Award in 2009. Also, Dr. Cox received the prestigious Arnold P. Gold Award for Humanism and Excellence in Teaching in 2006. Additionally, Diane was a member and co-chair of the House staff Council and member of the School of Medicine Faculty Awards Committee, Resident Life Committee, and RRC Accreditation Committee.
Diane recently completed her surgical board examination with the American College of Surgeons in general surgery and is now board certified by the college. Diane practices all aspects of general surgery with a special interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery, colon and rectal surgery, breast surgery, hernia and gall bladder and endoscopic procedures.
Diane and her husband James enjoy spending time with family and friends. Diane also enjoys music, hiking, traveling, and getting acclimated to Richmond’s plentiful community activities.
