Dr. Christian Schunn was born in Germany and has received scholarships from the American Field Service, the German Academic Exchange Service, and the State of Bavaria before coming to the United States.
Surgical Associates is pleased to have Dr. Schunn join the practice in September of 2005. He will be seeing new patients and performing a wide range of vascular and endovascular techniques as well as vein treatments at all hospital campuses and our Vein Solutions office.
Dr. Christian Schunn received his medical degree from Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich Germany. He obtained his doctorate at Technical University of Munich and then pursued General Surgery Training at Kreiskrankenhaus Pfaffenhofen, Germany before moving to the United States for a Residency in Pediatrics/Internal Medicine at the State University of New York. Subsequently, Dr. Schunn trained in General Surgery at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA before completing his General Surgery Residency at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Schunn then completed his Fellowship training in vascular surgery at the Cleveland Clinic under Dr. Norman Hertzer and at the University Erlangen-Nurnberg under Professor Raitel. For the past six years he has served as an Assistant and subsequently Associate Professor at West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV. While there, he served as medical director of the Vascular Noninvasive Laboratory. Dr. Schunn is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and member of many prestigious national and international vascular and endovasular societies.
Dr. Schunn and his wife, Dr. Gisa-Beate Schunn, enjoy spending time with their five children and when time permits, traveling to new locals. Dr. Schunn is multilingual in four languages and enjoys international politics and economics, music/dance, botany, swimming, hiking, and bicycling and exploring the outdoors.
