Dr. Bryan Johnson was born in Tarboro. North Carolina and currently resides within the city of Richmond. Dr. Johnson is the newest addition to the general surgery division of Surgical Associates of Richmond.
Dr. Johnson practices all aspects of general surgery with special interest in advanced gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgery.
Dr. Johnson is now accepting patients at our Waterford office near St. Francis Medical Center. He will be performing surgeries at Bon Secours, St. Francis Medical Center and CJW Medical Center’s Johnston Willis and Chippenham campuses.
College and Medical Training
Dr. Johnson received his bachelor degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. He then went on to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to complete his medical education. After obtaining his medical degree from The University of North Carolina (2008), he completed his general surgery internship at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey (2009) and residency (2014). Unique to his training and experience is Cooper’s distinguished affiliation a a University of Texas/MD Anderson Cancer Care Center. He was named chief resident for academic year 2013-2014. During medical school and his residency, he received several teaching and service awards. He also continued to perform international mission work and academic travel to the Dominican Republic (Santiago), Haiti (Tapio), and Africa (Cape Coast/Accra).
Dr. Johnson successfully completed another year of additional training in advanced gastrointestinal and laparoscopic training from Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, New Jersey completing it in June 2015. He is board certified by the American Board of General Surgery.
Bryan enjoys fitness, spending time outside, fishing and making musical instruments. He is enjoying experiencing all the Richmond area has to offer.
