Dr. Melissa Marinello was born in Massachusetts and currently resides in Chesterfield County with her husband and children. Dr. Marinello has joined the Trauma and Acute Care General Surgery Service at Chippenham Hospital.
Dr. Marinello received her bachelor of arts degree from College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. During her undergraduate college training, Dr. Marinello volunteered extensively and was the president of the Best Buddies chapter for developmentally disabled children.
Dr. Marinello received her doctorate in medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2005. She completed her internship and residency in surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia from 2005 to 2010. While there, Dr. Marinello received the Intern of the Year Award in 2006. Also, Dr. Marinello received the prestigious Arnold P. Gold Award for Humanism and Excellence in Teaching in 2008. She was also honored with recognition from the Special Operations Combat Medic Program for her contributions to training their medics. Additionally, Melissa won the I. A. Bigger Award for outstanding resident. Melissa served as the Chief administrative resident in her final year of training.
Melissa completed her surgical board examination with the American College of Surgeons in general surgery and is now board certified by the college. Additionally, Melissa is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Melissa practices all aspects of general surgery with a special interest in laparoscopic surgery, Davinci procedures, colon surgery, hernia repair, gallbladder and acute care general surgical procedures.
Melissa enjoys spending time with her family. With three active young children there are many outdoor adventures and activities. They enjoy exploring the many museums, musical events and attractions that Richmond has to offer.
