D. Michael Rose, M.D., FACS was born in Arkansas and received his undergraduate education at the University of Mississippi.
Dr. Rose performs all aspects of Surgical Oncology as well as General Surgery. He conducts patient examinations at our Johnston-Willis location.
Dr. Rose received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and then completed a General Surgery residency at Vanderbilt, during which time he completed two years of research in Surgical Oncology. A year of this research was in the Surgical Metabolism Laboratory at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He then performed a two year Senior Clinical Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California. For four years prior to joining Surgical Associates, he served as Chief of Surgical Oncology at Keesler USAF Medical Center. He joined Surgical Associates in 2004 and has acted as Director of Surgical Oncology at the Thomas Johns Cancer Hospital since its inception. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a Fellow of the Society of Surgical Oncology. His clinical interests include the multimodal management of solid tumors including thyroid cancer, melanoma, breast cancer, sarcoma, and GI cancers (esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, and colon).
In his leisure time, Dr. Rose enjoys diving, hiking, traveling, caring for his dogs, and cooking with his wife, Dr. Amy Rose of Surgical Associates.
